Lenten Discipline - Let's take a Walk....

Lent is not my favorite liturgical season... in fact... it's there at the bottom. I don't know why I don't like it - it's just never been my favorite season. Most of the time in this part of the world - all the flowers are in bloom and nary a one can be placed at the altar. (Right now the azaleas are about 3 weeks ahead of schedule and blooming here - dogwoods are holding tight).

Somewhere in Blogville, I saw a blog devoted to walking a marathon's worth in one month. Doable for us sloth type folks and at the end of the month you can be proud you have put in at least 26 miles. Well in my walk today, I had the AHA moment... 40 miles in 40 days... well... in light of the last few weeks with my blood pressure being up and my cholesterol following suit, I thought.. this is it. I will walk through Lent for me... for my family... and friends.. and if anyone would like to join me, you can take this graphic and upload it to your blog and join me in the journey. Wonder how many miles we can log.

For starters, I walked around my odd shaped block which is sort of shaped like a narrow leaf - it's 9/10 of a mile - which makes oh so wish it was an even mile to make it easy.

Let me know if you are going to join me in the walk and I will link you to the side as the 40 milers. Starts Ash Wednesday officially.

I'm trying to decide if it's safe for me to give up diet pepsi for Lent. Safe as in safe for my family to be around a deranged, un-caffeinated, morose mommy....

The walking sounds like a way better idea.

What a great idea, Cathy! I love it. I've been struggling with Lent, too, and I'm glad for you that something constructive *and* responsive to your current situation has arisen.

Cathy, sign me up. I almost said so yesterday, but I had to be sure I was serious. I'm going to put the button on my blog and link back to this post, if you don't mind.

I walked my first mile today, to be sure, so count me in, too. (I'll steal buttons and all that later today, after all the ashes).

Hi Cathy what a great idea sign me up.
I've been thinking of praying around the town this Lent, I'll combine the two.

I'm afraid my first mile is going to have to come indoors, tonight after church on our elliptical. But tomorrow outdoors, for sure. Not making excuses, but there have been some church and personal complications this Ash Wednesday (not the least of which was no clean socks; they're in the dryer now!).
